Conserve Energy
Our Beliefs
At Home Apartments is dedicated to providing clean, quiet, and well-maintained apartments.
We are responsible, as your property managers, to provide you with tools and information that will enhance your living experience and promote an eco-friendly environment. At Home Apartments is dedicated to this cause, we are working to increase the energy efficiency of the buildings by:
- Installing low-flow showerheads
- Installing low-flow toilets
- Using fluorescent bulbs were extending lighting is required
- Mounting photo eyes for all exterior and common area lights
- Having technologically advanced boilers
- Installing thermal-paned windows and insulated white membrane roofs to keep buildings cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter
- We provide and encourage recycling for every property
What to know about H2O...
Did you know that up to 75% of water use occurs in the bathroom? A low-flow showerhead can save mroe than 500 gallons per month. Be conscious of your time spent in the shower, take showers of less than five minutes and avoid taking baths.
Did you know a leaking toilet can waste more than 100 gallons of water daily? If you suspect your toilet is leaking, please call the office. In fact, if you have any leaks in your apartment, please report them immediately. A dripping faucet can waste more than 50 gallons per day or 18,000 gallons per year!
Did you know that if you leave the water on while brushing your teeth or shaving you could use more than 5 gallons of water per day? Instead of leaving your water running only use it to rinse. In turn, you will be saving 90% of what you would have wasted!
Did you know that washing machines use between 30 and 60 gallons per load? Make sure when doing laundry you wash full loads and use the correct water level setting for your load size. Most of the energy it takes to do a load of laundry is to warm up the water. Use the cold-water setting when possible, it will save money and be gentler on your clothes. Cold-water detergent is also a good option to consider for your laundry.
We believe that together we can make a significant contribution to our world by reducing our energy and water usage. With your help we can all save one of our most precious resources and save money spent!
Apartment Energy Tips...
You can control the temperature in your apartment! If you notice you're A/C is blowing warm air, be sure to call the office to submit a service request and turn your unit off. Please never open your windows when your heat is on, this is literally throwing money out the window!
In the colder months, use the largest source of heat to your advantage, the sun! Keep blinds open in the day to let sun in and close them at night to hold in heat. And remember to keep all storm windows closed!
In the warmer months keep window blinds down to keep out the direct sunlight. Only use your A/C unit when necessary. This will not only help save energy, but money as well.
If you leave for a long period of time, make sure to unplug small appliances. This will not only help you save money but keep your apartment safe from fire hazards.
If you leave town, don't turn you're A/C or heat completely off. It's okay to turn it up or down, but turning it off can cause frozen pipes in the winter or your unit to work extra hard when you return.
Quick Tips to Make a Difference...
A good way to circulate warm air is to reverse your ceiling fan. This will force the warm air at athe top of your apartment down.
Switching from incandescent lights to compact fluorescent lights is one of the best ways to save money and reduce your electric bill. Fluorescent lights produce up to 4x as much light per watt.
When buying cleaning supplies, do your research. There are great, eco-friendly options at your local stores.
It's obvious that leaving lights on in a room you aren't using is wasteful. So remember to turn them off, and when they are on make sure you are using lower wattage bulbs, dimmers, or lamps with three-way switches to match lighting levels to activities.
Volunteer Opportunities
If you would like to volunteer within your communities, please let us know! Our residents have a wide variety of needs from pet care or grocery assistance to offering to take a neighbor to their next destination.
If you would like to let us know what kind of volunteering opportunities you would like to see in your community, please contact the office.
Maintenance Tips
- If your lights are not turning on in the living room, dining room, or both, try the "test" and "reset" buttons on your GFI outlets in the kitchen and bathroom.
- If you notice that your A/C is not blowing cool air, it may need to have coolant added to the system. Please turn the unit to the "Off" position and call the office immediately.
- We recommend that everyone provides a plunger for their home. If your toilet becomes clogged, please use your own plunger before calling for service. Chances are a few plunges will free it up! Never dispose of anything other than conservative amounts of toilet paper in your toilet.
Renter's Insurance
We highly recommend renter's insurance. Often, the best deal can be obtained by calling your car insurance agent and letting them know you would like to add renter's insurance to your plan. If you would like help or have questions about renter's insurance, the office can provide names and contact information for agents in the area.
Pets
At Home Apartments welcomes cats! We do not have an extra pet deposit! We do charge an extra $20 in pet rent each month per cat.
In an effort to realize additional administrative efficiency, the Mission City Council voted last fall to eliminate the City licensing requirement for cats and dogs. In order to maintain the primary goals of the licensing program, the City will still require animals residing in Mission to maintain a current rabies vaccination.
The city is establishing a voluntary, on-line registration/database system which will allow pet owners to log-in and register information on their pet(s). This voluntary registration system will provide resources for reconnecting lost/stray pets and their owners. The existing database of all pets licensed in 2010 has been converted and will be available via the City's website at missionks.org.
Nieman Square allows small dogs up to 40 pounds. Contact Nieman Square directly at 913.269.0007 for details on deposits and pet rent.
Moving Center
At Home Apartments always recommends moving companies that we find to be reputable, responsible, reliable, fast, and considerate with all of your belongings. We often have discount coupons in our office and in the move-in folder each new resident receives at their lease signing appointment.
Great Day Moving has been voted the best in Kansas City. We highly recommend them.
